FAQs

Explore the answers to The Flywheel’s most commonly asked questions

What is letterpress?

Letterpress is a printing method unlike any other printing method today. The hand-mixed ink does not sit on top of the paper. It’s pressed into the paper leaving behind a beautiful indentation. At Flywheel, I strive for a deep impression every time.

Why does letterpress cost so much?

The letterpress printing process is more involved than a standard offset press or your desktop printer. The costs associated with letterpress printing at They Flywheel include:

  • The custom design

  • Polymer plates (each color, imprint, and back-of-card design require a separate, unique plate)

  • High-quality supplies such as hand-mixed inks, paper, and wax seals

  • Press time (each piece is hand-fed, one at a time, into the press)

  • Experienced and technical skill required

Can I add on or change anything after I order?

Yes! You can make changes to your order until I start printing, including changes to the quantity, paper types, text, etc.

However, once you give final approval, and the printing process has started, no changes can be made. Any changes made will be reflected in a final invoice to be paid when you pick up your order.

DO YOU HAVE COLORS & FONTS FOR ME TO CHOOSE FROM?

Fonts: The options for fonts are endless! Before printing your order, we will discuss the style of font you prefer then design a few mockups with different fonts that pair well together.

Colors: Your color options for paper, envelopes, and ink are also countless. Instead of choosing from a color palette that I’ve created, you’re able to share a specific color code, example, or swatch with me. I’ll color match to the best of my ability.

DO YOU LETTERPRESS OTHER TYPES OF PROJECTS?

Absolutely! I would love to work with you to make whatever project you have come to life. If you have an idea (custom gift tags, coasters, book covers, notebooks, etc.), let me know!

Do you offer other printing services?

While our main printing method is letterpress, you may request design services, digital printing, and letterpress printing independently of the others.

WILL YOU PRINT OTHER DESIGNERS WORK?

Usually, yes! I need to see a rough idea of what you have in mind. Some designs are better suited for letterpress than others, but I can certainly help!
